The Fanti or Caretta as it is more locally called is a carnival-like festival that is held in Lagos state of Nigeria three times in a year: on Christmas eve, New year’s day and Easter. This carnival was started by returnee slaves from Brazil; hence the common features with the famous Brazilian carnival.
It started mainly around the campos island where the returnee slaves had settled. It usually and typically show-cases several of the different cultures and traditions of Nigeria. This year’s carnival started on the 9th of April & it was themed ” Eko 4 show” which means “lagos for show” literally meaning “showcasing Lagos.”
There’s always so much beautiful Nigerian music,Nigerian delicacies,Nigerian attires etc to be seen. Different wonderful bright colours and people of different ethnic backgrounds to be seen. I didn’t go for this year’s (2012) carnival, but I got pictures from a number of people and places and I’d share them here & I hope to be at as many of this carnival as I can henceforth…NO DULLING. I’M SO PROUD OF MY HERITAGE.
