Lagos Carnival 2012 (showcasing Lagos state of Nigeria)

The Fanti or Caretta as it is more locally called is a carnival-like festival that is held in Lagos state of Nigeria three times in a year: on Christmas eve, New year’s day and Easter. This carnival was started by returnee slaves from Brazil; hence the common features with the famous Brazilian carnival.
It started mainly around the campos island where the returnee slaves had settled. It usually and typically show-cases several of the different cultures and traditions of Nigeria. This year’s carnival started on the 9th of April & it was themed ” Eko 4 show” which means “lagos for show” literally meaning “showcasing Lagos.”
There’s always so much beautiful Nigerian music,Nigerian delicacies,Nigerian attires etc to be seen. Different wonderful bright colours and people of different ethnic backgrounds to be seen. I didn’t go for this year’s (2012) carnival, but I got pictures from a number of people and places and I’d share them here & I hope to be at as many of this carnival as I can henceforth…NO DULLING. I’M SO PROUD OF MY HERITAGE.

Lost.

image

I’ve been captured & I can’t be helped,
I’m being tormented & oppressed,
Yet I love this place.
The police can’t rescue me, no form of security can get me out.
It’s colourless in here,
It’s warm in here.
I am treated like a king in here yet I’m only a captive.
If I’d be honest, it is beautiful in here.
It’s like a world of it’s own in here.
I’m helpless.
My captor is nice & kind.
My captor serves me & I serve my captor.
I’m totally lost.
I’m now a captor in my own way since my captor now serves me.
I’m a captive & a captor,
so is my captor now.
I’m really lost, really very lost & I can’t be helped.
No one can see me,
No one can understand,
No one can help me.

I’M LOST IN THE HEART OF A GIRL.

I am

I am a wind of change.
I am free, I am versatile.
I am resilient.
I don’t give up, I take down.
If no one gives me a chance, I take my chances.
Sometimes I am up, sometimes I am down, sometimes I am everything in between.
I am tenacious.
I am pain to pain.
When everyone tries to blend in, I stand out.
I am a beautiful story that has no ending.
I am a riddle that that can’t be cracked,an enigma.
I follow, I lead.
I learn, I teach.
I consume, I produce.
I take, I give.
I am black, I am white.
I am proof that there’s a God who Blesses.
You call me you,
You call me him,
You call me by a name,
I call myself me.
I AM ME.

Cheap talk

You could say all that cos you weren’t charged a dime.
You could rant about what you can do cos you didn’t pay 1 naira.
All what you say,all what you said came out easy cos you weren’t on a usage billing system.
If you were charged thousands of naira for what you do say, you’ll only confine yourself to doing more than you talk.
For now you talk & you hardly ever do.
Why?
Because talk is so very cheap.
